Shutchi catfish and Yellowtail catfish have become a symbol of the village located in the bifurcated river Chau Doc, for the over-the-top benefits gained that Chau Doc has turned into a hub for fish breeding in the Mekong Delta. That has made the village a very attracting tourist spot in this area. If you’re planning on your next Vietnam tours, consider this village.

We arrived in Chau Doc when the sun had already set, and quickly decided that we would visit the floating village on the following day, for we did not have time to drop in the pretty little town adjacent to the southwest borders. At seven in the morning, the whole crew made a beeline through a part of the Chau Doc market to set out our journey visiting the village by boats.
My first impression is that the life here is just peaceful, little boats moving among the sides of the tranquil city. As delicate as it can be, the boats impaled the water plants to head to the Hau river upstream. We did not have to wait for so long to be able to behold the first floating houses gradually appearing.

The floating houses here were built using high-quality waterproof wood, a typical floating house can spread to 100m2 in area featuring full bedrooms, living room, kitchen, aisles, and in the yard there is also an altar to worship the ancestors. Down below the floating houses is where the fish are bred, all fenced with steel materials. The majority of fish bred here are shutchi catfish and yellowtail catfish.
We were introduced to the lives of the people living in this floating village and learned a great deal of the breeding and the production of the aforementioned fish. Some of the guests from our crew were very into the fact that they could feed the fish through varying methods. The voracious fish splashed the water everywhere that made the place filled with laughter.

At the floating village, there are handmade souvenirs to buy. Colorful brocade bags and clothes, wooden fishing tools, and little gifts from the Cham people were essentially appealing to the guests. A visit to the floating market Chau Doc like this was really an unforgettable experience for us during our trip to the Mekong Delta. The trip gathered not only new knowledge on the land but also the life and culture of the locals living there.
